  • All interested parties may register for PERC Conferences. The general registration rate applies to all people not falling into another category. Note that IF YOU ARE from a PERC MEMBER School, AFFILIATE School or SPONSOR, do not use the General Registration: You will SAVE MONEY BY LOGGING ON and taking advantage of your discounted rate. Total price per person includes $259 for conference registration and $40 for food/ facilities. Note that "No Shows" will be billed.

"Leading the Change," PERC’s 2013 Fall Conference and Annual Meeting, will be held on Penn State’s University Park campus in State College on Tuesday, October 29th. We are excited about this centrally located venue as well as the wide range of content lined up for the event. (Scroll down to see the current agenda.) Seating is limited!


With speakers from government, non-profit and corporate partners as well as academia, we will have a wide variety of exciting and useful topics on tap, including:

• A session on Climate Change work from the Climate Change and Renewable Energy team. Speakers from this session include:
  • Joyce Ferris, founding partner with Blue Hill Partners, leading the Campus Energy Efficiency Fund. As you may know, Blue Hill leads "the investment of over $45 million in energy efficiency and sustainability projects at Pennsylvania colleges and universities. The Campus Energy Efficiency Fund (the “Fund”) is designed to help schools overcome the multiple challenges they face in achieving their sustainability goals."
  • Neil Leary, director of Dickinson College's Center for Sustainability Education, speaking on their NASA funded project,"Cooling the Liberal Arts Curriculum," that works with other higher education schools to build Climate Change education into the curriculum.
  • Joel Thomas, with Community Energy, Inc. discussing a plan CEI is testing to help make on-campus solar affordable with the aid of the institution's community.  Joel will also update us on their Keystone Solar curriculum project.
• A panel on PERC’s special initiative, the PA Higher Ed Food Recovery Challenge. The challenge was made possible with funding by Sodexo. Highlight speakers from this session include:
  • Luke Wolfgang, Sustainability Coordinator US EPA Region III Luke is one of our two key contacts at the EPA for the PA Higher Ed Food Recovery Challenge and has been involved with us since we began to develop the program.  Learn how the EPA is working with PERC to make the PHE-FRC a success.
  • George Cashmark, District Manager, Sodexo. Sodexo has also been involved with the PA Higher Ed Food Recovery Challenge from early on.  George will tell us about the Challenge from the point of view of campus food services supplier; what they bring to the table and the advantages of getting them involved.
  • Eileen Reavey, Director of Expansion,Food Recovery Network.  The food recovery network is a great story--started by engaged students on a variety of campuses. Learn how student interest became student action which became a nationwide network.  Eileen started York College of PA's chapter of FRN and now she's on staff at the national office. Whether you are in the Food Recovery Challenge or not, you may walk away with some new insights about student engagement.
  • Brittany Prischak, Sustainability Director, Mercyhurst University.  Mercyhurst was the first school to sign up for the PA Higher Ed Food Recovery Challenge. Learn what Mercyhurst is doing to engage in the PHE-FRC.
• A Poster Session with posters from schools across the state. A great chance for students to get involved and showcase their work in a statewide venue.  See the Call for Posters for more information.
• Also, new this year: A panel composed of selected PERC Campus Sustainability Champions, a statewide effort to recognize individuals who are doing commendable work on moving sustainability forward on their campuses and communities. The five "Champions" thought to be of most "general interest" will be invited to speak and share their stories of campus sustainability success. • And, based on “popular demand”, we will once again be incorporating the Sustainability Café into the day, giving participants a chance to collaborate and brainstorm on finding ways to move forward. Past attendees have praised the Sustainability Cafe, calling it "inspirational" and "motivating."

In addition to the above, we will learn about the strategy behind Penn State's exciting new Sustainability Institute from its director, Denice Wardrop, and hear from PERC Sustaining Sponsor, Sodexo. Rob Marasco a senior director with Sodexo, will be speaking on how a commitment to sustainability in higher education is built in to their corporate culture.
