2025 Campus Sustainability Champions Celebration Ceremony
Virtual, April 24th, 2025
In March of 2025, PERC announced the 2025 cohort of Campus Sustainability Champions. Looking back on this program’s history, the Campus Sustainability Champions awards began in 2013 with an initial class of 24 champions across 12 PA institutions.
To receive this recognition, each student, student group, and campus affiliate must embody the true message of a campus sustainability champion, which is
"an individual that has made meaningful contributions benefiting social, economic and/or environmental sustainability on their campus, in their community, or in society at large."
The special thing about a PERC champion is that no champion’s work looks like another’s. Whether working on developing sustainable food systems or creating environmental justice mapping indicators, our champions cover the A to Zs of sustainability in the way their campus needs it most!
This year, after undergoing a robust review process, PERC awarded 30 nominees with the Campus Sustainability Champion title. Across 10 institutions, PERC awarded 2 individual students, 5 student groups, and 4 faculty, staff, and campus affiliates. During the celebration, PERC was excited to highlight the efforts of our member institutions' students, faculty, and staff that are dedicated to the pursuit of sustainability on Pennsylvania's campuses. The event featured an introduction of each winner and their work and a keynote speech from Nyla Holland, a 2022 Campus Sustainability Champion and Policy Analyst at the Urban Institute (bio below)!
